Voting in Nigeria follows a straightforward process managed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Here is what to expect on election day:

  1. Arrive at your polling unit — Polling opens at 8:30 AM. Locate your assigned polling unit using our Polling Units finder.
  2. Join the queue — Form a line in an orderly manner. Anyone in the queue by 2:30 PM will be allowed to vote.
  3. Accreditation — Present your Permanent Voter Card (PVC). INEC officials will verify your identity using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).
  4. Receive your ballot paper — After accreditation, you will receive a ballot paper for the election being held.
  5. Mark your ballot — Go to the voting cubicle and thumbprint next to your preferred candidate. Fold the ballot paper.
  6. Cast your vote — Drop the folded ballot paper into the ballot box.
  7. Stay for counting — Results are counted at the polling unit and announced publicly. Results are also uploaded electronically via IReV.
